When my clients reached out, they were building their dream getaway — a true A-frame in Spring Creek, North Carolina, with sweeping views of Max Patch right outside the window. As the owners of White Rock Coffee in Dallas, they had a full life and a clear sense of who they were, and they wanted their mountain home to reflect that. They came with a beautiful tension already on the table: they loved the mid-century architecture of the A-frame, but they also loved navy, traditional warmth, and the feeling of an elevated cabin.
They wanted a home that felt like it had always been there — rooted and unhurried, the kind of place the whole family gravitates toward without needing a reason. A true gathering place, worthy of the views and the name they'd already given it: White Rock Farm.
The architecture gave us so much to work with, and having clients who understood and respected it made the whole process exciting. But what I loved most was finding room within that strong mid-century framework to bring in traditional elements — figuring out how those two sensibilities could coexist and actually elevate each other.

We worked through the full interior — kitchen, primary suite, guest bath, and the dramatic main living space anchored by that soaring A-frame ceiling.
The name White Rock Farm became literal in the design. White rock was used as the kitchen backsplash and as a statement wall running the full height of the home alongside the stairs — a nod to both the property's identity and the natural landscape just outside. Benjamin Moore's Hale Navy became the other throughline, appearing on the kitchen cabinetry, Italian tile in the primary bath, a plaid and picket tile in the guest bath, and a Ronald Redding grasscloth in the primary bedroom.
The traditional elements came in through texture and material: vintage Afghan rugs, Thibaut fabrics, matte black finishes, and warm wood tones paired with mid-century angular fixtures. The result is a home that feels collected over time rather than designed all at once — which is exactly what the views deserve.
