Do you wonder how to choose the right end table for your living room? There are a lot of factors to consider!
End tables are used at the ends of a sofa or sectional, or next to or between chairs. Some end tables are large enough for a lamp and a couple of accessories, some are really just big enough for a drink. Those could go in front of a floor lamp and don’t need accessorizing. the chunkier version is like a garden stool, about 12” in diameter and more cylindrical in shape. The smaller is often called a drinks table and typically has an interesting base, a stem and a small surface for a beverage.
I think it’s best to have a mix in most living rooms because a drinks table can move easily, a garden stool can also serve as a stool for extra seating and you need a couple more substantial tables for lamps. To select the right height for a traditional end table, shoot for the height of the arm of your sofa or certainly within 2 inches. If you have a sofa or chair with exposed legs, you might want an end table next to it with a simple chunky base. Conversely, if you have a heavy piece of upholstery, consider a lighter glass or mirror topped table next to it!
If you can’t put your finger on what isn’t quite right in your living room, make sure you have end tables that are to scale. Without them your furniture feels like its floating, and we don’t want that!
